At 19:00 of May 5, 2017, a special theme concert was staged at the Cancer Prevention and Control Center of Zhongshan University. This activity was jointly organized by the volunteer service team of Urban and Rural Planning and Design Institute of Guangdong Province, the Youth League Committee of Cancer Prevention and Control Center of Zhongshan University, and GJ DoReMi. Led by the institute party secretary, Qian Zhongjiang, the volunteers within and outside the institute brought a music feast to the patients and medical workers in the forms of live music playing, story sharing, singing and playing at the same time, musical instrument solo, oral reading with music, and audience chorus and interaction. This activity was aimed at helping the cancer patients to regain the confidence in living and enlarge the strength to endure, and eulogizing the touching spirit of doctor-patient solidarity and co-building new life.

Two medical workers from Cancer Prevention and Control Center acted as the presenters, they put aside the medical apparatus and instruments and picked up the phone, and they took off the doctor's overall and performed the “The Voice of Doctors”. Then, the show began with “Chun Feng Shi Li”and “City of Sky”.

Here came an original poetry reading titled Guard the Original Will from the volunteer service team of our institute. The poetry creation was inspired by a touching inspirational story. Six years ago, a flower girl of Guizhou, Yang Damei was diagnosed with a malignant lymphoma, which made her troubled day by day, and her family were sympathetic but had no ability to help her due to poverty. Fortunately, she met a doctor with medical skill and kindliness, and they composed a song of life about doctor and patient joining hands to fight against cancer, and truly deduced a story about guarding a life and keeping the original will in mind. Qin Min working in the municipal administration office composed the poetry titled Guard the Original Will based on the story. The recitation with music was just like as a trickle embellishing people’s heart. But no one knew that Qin Min immediately rushed to the performance scene after finishing the work report in the afternoon. A few days ago, he still worked in overtime even when he got cold.

Our A cappella chorus (non-professional) were also invited to sing. This was the second hand for them to present Ordinary Road onto the stage, and this was our first attempt to combine music with public benefit activity. The members could not only experience the high-end stage arrangement and professional equipment, but also feel the true essence of music: music can not only give a person the enjoyment of art, but also bring them with the hope of life and the strength to move ahead.

Then, the medical workers sang the songs, Like You, With You All the Way, Small Hand in Large Hand and etc, which eulogized a touching love story about a patient fighting against cancer together with his beloved. When the melody of Under A Vast Sky rang out on stage, an 11-year-old children patient sang this classic song together with a singer, which pushing the scene atmosphere to a climax. At this point, the concert was over in the touched tear of everyone.

"Go to the special places, experience more life," which is the original intention of our planning technicians to provide public services. By virtue of Guard the Original Will, the volunteers told everybody the strength to endure was not ordinary. The planners tried to told everyone that each person had unknown energy and miracle hidden in his/her body through cross-border singing.

In this activity, the volunteer service team of our institute not only brought the touching program, but also participated in all field service work, and contributed to the success of this evening party. "Roses given, fragrance in hand", as the youth volunteers, we used our own compassion to help people build their confidence in life, promoted our own value and gained a lot of positive energy in carrying forward social civilized practices, and felt touched at the same time. The volunteer service team will continue to actively expand the connotation and form of volunteer service, and strive to be the first model in the construction of spiritual civilization.
