On June 24th, the second “Zhuyuangua” promotion conference themed of “A Red World of Watermelon along the Ancient Roadside” by Shuangjiang Town, Dongyuan County, Heyuan City was held in Shuangjiang Town, Dongjiang County. Qiu Yanqing, Group Leader of the fifth supervision and guidance group of Ancient Post Road in South Guangdong and Dean of Guangdong Urban & Rural Planning and Design Institute attended the conference and delivered a speech.

Qiu Yanqing, Group Leader of the fifth supervision and guidance group of Ancient Post Road in South Guangdong and Dean of Guangdong Urban & Rural Planning and Design Institute attended the conference and delivered a speech. The units from the Heyuan Municipal Government and the municipality, and the Dongyuan County Party Committee, the county government, the direct departments of county, the various townships, the township and village enterprises, and the outreaching elites of Shuangjiang Township gathered the surrounding public to attend the promotion conference.

In his speech, Dean Qiu Yanqing fully affirmed the restoration, protection and utilization of the eastern section of the Guangdong-Jiangxi Ancient Road by Shuangjiang Town of Dongyuan County, and he congratulated the organization of the second “Zhuyuangua” promotion meeting in Shuangjiang Town. At the same time, he conveyed the congratulation on this activity by Guo Zhuangshi, deputy director of the provincial department of housing and urban-rural development and he fully affirmed the importance attached by the Dongyuan County Party Committee and the County Government to the protection and utilization of the ancient post road.

Dean Qiu Yanqing stated that promoting the protection and utilization of the ancient post roads in South Guangdong is a concrete measure to implement the “Cultural Self-confidence” by the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in the province. It is also an important task deployed by the provincial party committee and the provincial government, and it is also an essential link of “Rejuvenating Village through Construction of Roads” in boosting the prosperity of village. Thanks to the strategic existence, economic complementarity, spatial linkage, and the shared cultural foundation between the ancient post road and rural areas, it is available to have the conditions to form a positive and interactive situation featured by “post road as the carrier and focusing on the countryside”. The activation and utilization of the ancient post road have become a strong driving force for the rural development in Guangdong, which has achieved sound results in promoting cultural confidence in Lingnan and boosting rural revitalization. This promotion conference was themed of “A Red World of Watermelon along the Ancient Roadside”. It is a vivid example in Dongyuan County to launch the “Post + Agriculture + Tourism” activation and utilization activity by relying on the historical and cultural resources of the ancient post roads. Therefore, it is worthy of affirmation and promotion.

Dean Qiu Yanqing pointed out that as one of the 11 key lines in the province, the eastern section of Guangdong-Jiangxi ancient road has witnessed the completion of some of the main body repairs and the overall EPC bidding, which is ahead of the province in terms of progress. In the next step, it plans to highly integrate and mutual promotion for the conservation and utilization of the ancient post roads and the rural revitalization along the line on the basis of accelerating the restoration of the main bodies of ancient post roads. He also hoped that Shuangjiang town shall seize the opportunity of the rise of the watermelon industry, and make full use of the resources brought by the conservation and restoration of the ancient post road, and actively develop other rural industries, so as build a bridge of cultural self-confidence and rural revitalization, and build it as a model for the “Rejuvenating Village through Post Roads”. 

Afterwards, Dean Qiu Yanqing led the inspection group members to conduct field inspections and supervision of the construction and conservation situation of the ancient post roads between Zhaizi Village in Shuangjiang Town and Zhangxia Village in Xingang Town, and he provided guidance on the restoration, conservation and utilization of the ancient post roads to be carried out in the next step.
