As a public institution directly subordinate to Housing and Urban & Rural Construction Department of Guangdong Province, Guangdong Urban & Rural Planning and Design Institute has six Grade A qualifications: urban & rural planning, architectural engineering design, engineering consultancy, municipal industry (road engineering) design, engineering supervision and bidding agency and three Grade B qualifications: municipal industry (water supply engineering, water drainage engineering) specialty, special design on landscape architecture engineering and land planning.

Through more than fifty years of continuous development, Guangdong Urban & Rural Planning and Design Institute has owned a team composed of nearly 400 cadres and staffs and set up design research institutions such as study center, planning design, city design, municipal design and architectural design.

Guangdong Urban & Rural Planning and Design Institute is keeping on creating achievements and competitive products in planning design, engineering design and consultancy and policy study. It occupies a national leading position in planning and construction of regional green channel networks, planning cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau, regional planning and design of hospital architectures. In recent years, its more than 260 planning designs, engineering designs and research achievements have won excellent design awards at national, ministerial or provincial level. At the same time, as a provincial think tank, Guangdong Urban & Rural Planning and Design Institute has undertaken a large quantity of important programs and policy studies entrusted by Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, People's Government of Guangdong Province and departments directly under provincial jurisdiction: planning of town systems of Guangdong Province, overall planning of green channel networks of Pearl River Delta and Guangdong Province, “13th Five-Year Plan” construction scheme of Guangdong Province new-type urbanization, study on reform of Guangdong Province urban and rural planning, warehousing standard for legal planning achievements of Guangdong Province, study on real estate policies of Guangdong Province, macroscopic space planning of Pearl River Delta, planning of harmonious development of town clusters in the east of Guangdong Province, planning of harmonious development of town clusters in the west of Guangdong Province, special planning of Guangdong Province to support urban and rural construction in Xinjiang, etc.

Under the guidance of comprehensively deepening reforms and implementing five development concepts of “innovation, greenness, coordination, openness and sharing”, Guangdong Urban & Rural Planning and Design Institute has identified “Reasonable, Realistic, Innovative and Exploiting” as its institute motto, actively exploring modes of innovative development and scientific management and comprehensively enhancing its professional levels in urban and rural planning design, engineering design and consultancy.
